Cherry Morris is the creation of Sydney based jewellery and accessories designer Nicole Russell, who launched her label in December 2008 with a collection of fine leather belts whose intricate designs are used to stunning effect. Her progression into jewellery came shortly after with necklaces, cuffs and brooches following the same theme.
After completing a degree in Industrial Design with class 1 honors at the University of Newcastle, Nicole relocated to Sydney to pursue her career. She gained some valuable experience at two of Sydneys top design agencies before the desire to work for herself took over and Cherry Morris was born.
The styling of a product has always been Nicole's favourite element of design. Creating pieces for Cherry Morris allows her to '...do all the fun stuff like sketching and model making' and skip all the technical elements of the industry.
Each of Nicole's designs are created from a model sculpted in clay, which is then used to create the finely detailed castings seen in all her pieces.
The joy of creating by hand and having an understanding of the casting process has allowed Nicole to design for production while still maintaining the essence of craft and the hand made.
